| Delaware makes "SMASH" at 2008 US Open | |  |
Smash players Liezel Huber, Ryler de Heart, Chris Haggard, Christina Fusano and Madison Brengle all played in the 2008 US Open.
Chris and Christina both lost close first round doubles matches, but put on an impressive show. Madison wore the unique cap of playing in both the main draw qualifying and the girls' singles tournaments.
Ryler's talent was showcased on Center Court in his second round match against the No. 1 player in the world, Rafael Nadal. Ryler said before that match that he "had nothing to lose and just wanted to go out there and have fun". He did just that and the crowd was definitely behind him and cheered him on.
Liezel made it all the way to the finals of both the Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Huber and Jamie Murray lost in an extremely close mixed doubles match 6-7, 4-6 to Cara Black and Leander Paes. One day later, Liezel teamed with Black to capture the 2008 US Open Women's Doubles Championship with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win over Lisa Raymond (Philadelphia Freedoms) and Samantha Stosur.
